Composition:Piracetam 800 mg Tablet

Piracetam (sold under many brand names) is a nootropic drug. It appears to enhance cognition and memory, slow brain aging, increase blood flow and oxygen to the brain, aid stroke recovery, and ameliorate Alzheimer's, Down's syndrome, dementia, and dyslexia, among other diseases and conditions. Piracetam's chemical name is 2-oxo-1-pyrrolidine acetamide; it shares the same 2-oxo-pyrrolidone base structure with 2-oxo-pyrrolidine carboxylic acid (pyroglutamate). Piracetam is a cyclic derivative of GABA. It is one of the racetams. Piracetam is prescribed by doctors for some conditions, mainly myoclonus, but is used off-label for a much wider range of applications.

Mechanism of Action:

The prototype of the so called nootropic durgs is used since many years in different countries to treat cognitive impairement in aging & dementia. Piracetam has been shown to alter the physical properties of the plasma membrane by increasing its fluidity & by protecting the cell against hypoxia. It increase red cell the deformality & normalizes aggregation of agent with antithrombotic, neuroprotective & rheological properties. Treatment with Piracetam improves learning, memory, brain metabolism & capacity. The drug influences neuronal & vascular functions & influences cognitive function without acting as a sedative or stimulant.


Pharmacokinetic:

The drug nitration potential resulting in changes of Piracetam pharmacokinetic is expected to be low because approx. 90% of the dose of Piracetam is exerted in urine as unchanged drug.


Adverse effects:


  • Insomnia
  • Diarrhoea
  • Changes in blood pressure
  • Increase in body weight

Contraindications:


  • Hypersensitivity to Piracetam
  • Not to be taken patient with cerebral hemorrhage
  • Contraindicated in end stage renal disease patients
  • Should not be used in patients suffering from Huntington’s chorea.
