Composition:Sodium Feredetate 23.1 mg + Cyanocobalammin 15 mcg + Folic acid 1.5 mg Tablet

Sodium feredetate, an iron formulation, is prescribed for the treatment of anemia, iron-deficiency, rheumatoid-arthritis associated anemia and dysmenorrhoea in adults. Sodium feredetate is also indicated for premature babies and in patients undergoing dialysis.

Indications:


  • Iron deficiency anaemia.
  • Pernicious and Megaloblastic anaemia.
  • Anaemia during pregnancy.
  • Severe blood loss during heavy menstruation and surgery.
  • Anaemia secondary to rheumatoid arthritis.

Mechanism of Action:

Sodium Feredetate is a vital component of haemoglobin. Sodium Feredetate is a component of myoglobin, a pigment which stores oxygen in muscle. Vitamin B12 along with Folic Acid is essential for the biosynthesis of nucleotide, to synthesize DNA, repair and methylate DNA and they act as cofactor in biological reactions. It is required to produce healthy RBCs, prevent anemia and for the normal functioning of brain and nervous system.


Pharmacological action:

Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin) refers to a group of water-soluble vitamins. It has high biological activity. Tablets (Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin) is necessary for normal hematopoiesis (promotes maturation of erythrocytes). Involved in the processes of transmethylation, hydrogen transport, synthesis of methionine, nucleic acids, choline, creatine. Contributes to the accumulation in erythrocytes of compounds containing sulfhydryl groups. Has a beneficial effect on liver function and the nervous system. Activates the coagulation of blood in high doses causes an increase in the activity of thromboplastin and prothrombin.


Pharmacokinetics:

After oral administration Tablets (Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin)) absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Metabolized in the tissues, becoming a co-enzyme form - adenosylcobalamin which is the active form of cyanocobalamin. Excreted in bile and urine.


Side effects:

  • CNS: rarely - a state of arousal.
  • Cardiovascular system: rarely - pain in the heart, tachycardia.
  • Allergic reactions: rarely - urticaria.

Contraindications:

  • Thromboembolism
  • erythremia
  • erythrocytosis
  • increased sensitivity to cyanocobalamin.
